The Descendants Of Oliver Wallace and Mary Pricilla Night
Some Background History
On October 5, 1832, Oliver Wallace appeared before the court in
Warren County, Ohio to make a deposition for the granting of an application
for a pension from the War Department. In his statement, Oliver stated
that he was an orphan, being born on the 14th day of February, 1763.
He was bound by a man by the name of Thomas Lookey, and in the latter
part of August, 1780 was ordered to act as a substitute for Lookey's
son-in-law, Elijah Russell. At the age of 17, Oliver went to war,
marching with the 8th Virginia Regiment under General Baron von Steuben
and Colonel William Campbell.
Oliver Wallace fought at the Battle of Yorktown, and witnessed Lord
Cornwallis surrendering his sword to George Washington.
Oliver Wallace was discharged and marched back to the only home he had
in Shenandoah County, Virginia. His clothes were in tatters, and he was near
starvation when he arrived.
Time passed and the young ex-soldier married Mary Pricilla Night
on September 14, 1783 in Rockingham County, Virginia. They moved on ....as many
people did in that day and time. Mary gave birth to eight children - three
in Tennessee,four in Kentucky, and one in Ohio.
